Kim Kardashian Flour Bomb, or fame on the Internet.

If you have an AOL, MSN or Yahoo mailbox, chances are you have been exposed to the Kardashian's antics in your newsfeed – including the latest one, the flour bomb. You might dismiss these news stories or read them avidly, you cannot deny that you belong to a society where values and culture are staggering.
The development of media keeps redefining fame, ever since the 1950s and the mass production of TV sets. We are witnessing a new stage with the Internet: fame is defined by the ability to create an online buzz. We are consumers and want short videos, short news stories, tweets and catchy headlines. The TV networks and main online corporations know this and keep looking for stars whose antics will get internet users to click on a headline.
Are we exposed to positive role models, to success stories, to inspiring actions? No. We are exposed to a silly news story about a star who has clearly become a laughing stock. And we take a perverse pleasure in seeing these people fail: they go to rehab, their clothing line fail, they get caught on camera doing something embarrassing. This might entertain you and help your work day go by faster, but what kind of values are media transmitting to our children? They are teaching them that they can compensate for their feelings of inadequacy by watching other people fail and embarrass themselves. No wonder bullying is a major concern in most schools. As teenagers and young adults, our children tend to get mixed up about these 'stars' and consider them as role models. If Kim Kardashian is getting some attention on Yahoo News or on the MSN homepage, there must be a way to get some positive attention by doing something similar and posting it on Facebook. This new generation is after instant gratification: they want positive reactions from their peers or simply to be envied without making any efforts. Education, volunteering, leadership, hard work and family values are not perceived as a way to get this positive attention because this is not what is trending in Google search results.
