Elizabeth Banks: from strong and independent female rolemodel to 'glam makeover'.

Elizabeth Banks, the star from the Hunger Games movie is acceding to fame. A simple search on Google shows that the message of the movie did not come through. Elizabeth Banks' cleavage makes the headline and the second most popular article is about her getting a 'glam makeover'. I believe these topics are popular because Elizabeth Banks does not appear as an attractive young women - at least according to Hollywood's standard in the movie. She is a strong, decisive woman who is ready to fight. This is the kind of character teenage girls are in need of. Read my previous post about the Hunger Games for more details on young female role models. It took the media less than two days to ruin this new role model and turn her into a brainless teenage female star. Clearly, her cleavage and makeover are more important than her acting skills or what she things about the movie.
The idea of giving her a makeover and the surprised reaction at the fact that she has cleavage show that she was not perceived as attractive by the media after the movie was released. Giving her a makeover means she needs to change the image we saw in the movie - because it does not correspond to Hollywood's standards on beauty. I hope she will still manage to get a few smart words in her interviews and remind us of the message of the movie, in spite of the media trying to coax her into the traditional stereotype of the young female star, mostly appreciated for her body.
